Britain's Most Scenic Railway Journey: Minute By Minute - ITV Entertainment for Channel 5

Broadcast in a primetime slot at 8pm on Channel 5 on the 30th of Dec 2019 this new format was produced by ITV Entertainment Productions for Channel 5 and was produced and directed by Jonathan Stow from Intraspectrum Studios

This 94 minute long film was in the top 50 Christmas Specials to watch and occupied the coveted 8pm to 10pm slot and here’s the synopsis:

Ever wondered what it would be like to travel one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys through the Scottish Highlands but never had the chance? ‘The Highlands by Steam Train: Fort William to Mallaig’ is a gorgeous feature length film for all audiences, young and old, that will take you on an unforgettable journey from the foothills of Ben Nevis (Britain’s highest mountain) down the West Highlands route to meet the sea at the coastal port of Mallaig. You’ll encounter the most stunning scenery aboard the old ‘black 5’ locomotive whilst also being given a rare insight into the day-to-day running of the train.

Using cutting-edge camera technology, the filmmakers will take you along the entire journey, second by second, as if you were travelling it yourself. Sit back and relax as you are transported from the world of a dreamy passenger, to the heat and smoke of the driver’s cab, to sitting atop the locomotive as its raw power pulls you up through the dramatic Scottish landscape.

We’ll follow the route of train driver Ian Riley and the train guard/manager Florence MacClean as the locomotive winds its way past lochs, mountains, and the world famous Glenfinnan Viaduct all the while taking in the beautiful ancient vistas of indigenous ferns, heather and brackens.

This journey really has to be seen to be believed – a one-off film experience where you’ll get to travel a century old train route in a way that no one has seen it before.
